Use your owncloud storage space as a usb key or a network drive

How to find your ownCloud documents in a network drive ... Using your documents in the cloud on your computer will be as simple as plugging in a USB key!

How to get your usb key

To use your Cloud storage, You must first create an account on our site and possibly join (See the top of the page). Then Activate your cloud account . Go to "My Profile", tab "Cloud", then click on "Yes" and validate.

The storage space is:

  • 1 GB for non-members (free)
  • 5 GB for Silver Members
  • 10 GB for Gold Members

How to use and connect your usb internet key to copy / paste files

  • On Linux / Gnome (click):

Launch the file explorer (Nautilus) and make this shortcut: keys CTRL + L (or do File / connect to a server)

In the entry field that opens, delete and enter this address:

Validate, another window opens then asking you to enter your identifiers used at the mother Zaclys (not your mail but your owncloud digital ID):

The drive appears in the left area, in the "Network" area. Right click on it, then "Add bookmark.

    Your storage space is ready:

Note : Some software will have problems accessing your files directly. Copy / paste files works, Nautilus can not display previews directly, Libreoffice asks to re-enter your credentials to create its own access, no worries about Gimp, some photo viewers do not pass.

  • On Linux / KDE (Click) :

Launch the file explorer (Dolphin) and make this shortcut: key CTRL + L (or simply click in the address bar)

In the entry field that opens, delete and enter this address:

Validate, another window opens then asking you to enter your identifiers used at the mother Zaclys (not your mail but your owncloud digital ID):

Click in an empty area of the explorer so that the address bar becomes normal, then drag the network folder icon to make it a favorite in the "placements" area.

    Your storage space is ready:
  • About MAC (Click) :

Make the keyboard shortcut MAC + K on the Finder.
In the entry box that opens, enter this address:

Validate, another window opens then asking you to enter your identifiers used at the mother Zaclys

Note : On MAC OS X the access works completely

  • On Android (click):

Install with Play store On your Android: WebDAV Navigator , or WevDAV Navigator Lite .

    In server address simply specify:

    And use your Zaclys IDs!

  • On recent Windows such as Windows 7 or 8 (Click) :

Right mouse button on the workstation: Connect a network drive.

Choose a letter (Z for example) and enter below:

Click "reconnect when logging in" to register your WedDav player.
Then click "Login using different credentials" to enter your identifiers used at Mother Zaclys:

    Your storage space is ready:

  • On older Windows such as XP, 2000, 2003 (Click) :

Note : On XP you will only be able to copy / paste files.

Double click "My Computer", in the window that opens go to "My Network Places" (left):

Then click on "Add a network favorite" and press 2x:

    Then enter:

Validate, then enter your login credentials at Zaclys:

Then confirm the steps to confirm the opening of this "network favorite".

Note : On XP only the copying / pasting actions of files work, can not open and modify the files directly.

  • Problem with Windows?

If it does not work, check that the "webclient" service is enabled on your windows: go to Settings / Administrative Tools (or right click on My Computer / Manage), then go to Services and verify that Webclient is Active, otherwise enable it.

Complete networking under linux via davfs (full access as a real usb key):

  • Install the davfs2 packet. On fedora / centos / redhat:

    Sudo yum install davfs2

  • Add your user in the davfs2 group

    Sudo usermod -a -G davfs2 $ (whoami)

  • Allow users of your system to "mount" your cloud space as a usb key: by editing (/ sudo) the / etc / fstab file, add at the end: / Media / zcloud davfs noauto, user
  • If you need a proxy, configure the /etc/davfs2/davfs2.conf file:
  • Your passwords for the proxy (if needed) and especially for your cloud access will be stored in ~ / .davfs2 / secrets (edit via sudo): proxy-user "proxy-password"
    / Media / zcloud zcloud-user "zcloud-password"

(The first line is useless if you do not need a proxy)

  • The preceding steps are not to be rebuilt each time.
  • It remains to create the mount point:

Sudo mkdir / media / zcloud

And to "mount" your cloud space on this folder, at this moment the / media / zcloud folder will allow you to navigate your cloud storage space as if it were a USB key connected to your computer:

    Mount / media / zcloud

(If you have an error "your user must be in the davfs2 group: disconnect and log on to linux)
  • finished ! Open the file explorer ...

Df -h / media / zcloudFilesystem
Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
15G 12M 15G 1% / media / zcloud

Developer experience feedback:

- from the web interface owncloud of zaclys, I created an "exchange" folder, I can access it from any computer via this web interface, and I have in web development files (css, php, Html) that I can edit directly from the online editor of the web interface if needed

- it is mounted in webdavfs (tuto above) on my dedicated server linux that I rent at ovh, it is com 1 reader reso, I access directly without constraints and transparently as if the file tree was on the server. Of course It was not a question of installing a sync client on this server for security reasons, so the "mounting" davfs was ideal.

- then on my laptop that I use in public transport to work on dev (notepad ++ on win8), I installed the owncloud sync client, and I configured it to sync only the Folder "exchange" of the cloud server and an "exchange" folder on this laptop, in a location of my choice. I can work locally on this pc on files, when I arrive at home or work just connect this laptop to the internet so that it synchronizes with the server: it uploads all files modified, folders moved , Etc ... instantly these modifications are also visible from my dedicated server

- conversely I can also work directly from my dedicated web server on these files (from desktop I connect in ssh on this server), if the portable pb is connected to the internet it will recover the changes ...

- the cherry for the web developer: I can launch a website on my dedicated server (apache / linux / mysql / php), configure apache for this website to use the files in the "exchange" folder that is mounted on the server. .. and apache will execute the php code of the source files directly, through the network edit it will use the files stored on the cloud of zaclys ... and I can continue working on this code in the bus:

Testimony of Code Boilermaker.
