Using ownCloud to sync your Firefox browsers with Mozilla Sync

Synchronize your personal data between different browsers Firefox While maintaining control over your data through ownCloud And application Mozilla Sync .

Important: Since Firefox 29, it is no longer possible to configure its own Mozilla Sync server ... This tutorial therefore no longer works unfortunately.

If you have updated Firefox, the configuration remains in place. A temporary and incomplete solution to this problem can therefore be to install an old version of Firefox, to make the configuration and then to update.

This tutorial proposes to synchronize the configuration of two browsers Firefox Located on different devices using your access ownCloud To store the data:

  • A browser 1 "Zaclys" with a bookmark "Zaclys"wink

    Navigateur Zaclys

  • A browser 2 "LinuxFr" with ... a bookmark "LinuxFr".

    Navigateur "LinuxFr"

I) Configuration on ownCloud

  1. Open a browser and go to the web interface ownCloud ( https://webcloud.zaclys.com/ ).

  2. Go to the configuration space by clicking on your nickname at the top right and then Staff .

    Ouvrir le menu personnel

  3. If you have not already done so, enter an email address to retrieve your password ownCloud .

    Saisir adresse email de récupération

  4. Reload this Page (press F5 for example), and then copy the server address sync Mozilla Sync located further down the page (normally https://webcloud.zaclys.com/remote.php/mozilla_sync/ ).

Adresse du serveur de synchronisation Mozilla Sync

We will use this address in the following to configure our two Firefox browsers.

II) Configuration of the browser 1 "Zaclys"

  1. From the Firefox menu (or from the Tools menu depending on your configuration for display), click Configure Sync ... .

    Ouvir le menu Firefox Sync

  2. Then choose create a new account .

Cliquer sur Créer un nouveau compte

  3. Enter the e-mail address you entered on ownCloud (part I), your usual password for ownCloud, and then select Using a custom server ... in the field Server .

  4. Copy the address of the synchronization server Mozilla Sync which was indicated on your web access ownCloud (see part I), and is normally: https://webcloud.zaclys.com/remote.php/mozilla_sync/ .

The configuration of the first browser "Zaclys" is now complete. Your personal data is now synchronized in your cloud.

    Configuration du navigateur "Zaclys" terminée

II) Configuring the browser 2 "LinuxFr"

  1. From the menu Firefox Of the second browser (or from the menu Tools Depending on your display configuration), click Configure Sync ... .
  2. Click this time on I have an account .

    Cliquer sur J'ai un compte

  3. Firefox Sync Then indicates a Association code Temporary to enter on the other browser. Note it.

    Code d'association

  4. Navigate to the browser device "Zaclys"And open the menu Preferences From the menu Firefox (Or from the menu Edition Depending on your configuration).

  5. Click on the link Associate a device in the tab Sync .

    Cliquer sur Associer un appareil

  6. Then enter Association code Previously given in step 3, and then click following (It is possible that the code is changed in the meantime if you have placed too much time).

  7. The "LinuxFr" browser association with the "Zaclys" browser is normally terminated.

    Connection réussie

And each browser must now have both bookmarks.

Navigateur "Zaclys" une fois la synchronisation effectuée

If this is not the case, you can force synchronization by clicking Synchronize Now From the menu Firefox (Or from the menu Tools Depending on your configuration).

    Synchroniser maintenant

Proceed in the same way with all your other devices.

Your personal data (add-ons, bookmarks, passwords, preferences, history and tabs) are now synchronized between your two browsers, and are stored on ownCloud .
Please note that it is possible to choose the data to be synchronized from the Firefox Sync (Step 5 of III).
If it allows to have a greater control on its data, unfortunately this service of synchronization is specific to Firefox And is not integrated into the application Bookmark and Share to - ownCloud .

  • by bruyere (Zaclynaute) - 05/07/2016 21:10

  • by Bill (Zaclynaute) - 05/07/2016 11:31

    Merci Bruyere

  • by bruyere (Zaclynaute) - 05/07/2016 10:43

  • by Bill (Zaclynaute) - 18/06/2015 13:48

    Sync Status
    Last sync 2015-06-17 20:59:51 UTC
Size of stored data 616 kB (unlimited quota)
    Number of synced devices 2

  • by Bill (Zaclynaute) - 18/06/2015 11:09

    Bonjour Dams B
